What is sugaring?

Using a technique which originated in Egypt, a paste made primarily of sugar is applied to the surface of the skin. The sugaring paste is then removed taking the hair along with it.

How does sugaring work?

The sugaring paste is warmed and then applied thinly to the skin in the direction of the hair growth. Reusable cotton strips are then pressed firmly onto the paste and then sharply pulled back thus removing the hair with the sugaring paste.

On what areas of the body can sugaring be used?

Practically all areas including eyebrows, upper lip, underarms, legs, arms, stomach, and the bikini line. Men have one exception – they cannot use sugaring on the beard due to a different hair root system.

How long before hair regrows after sugaring?

Generally sugaring hair removal lasts between 4 and 6 weeks depending on the level of hair growth. The hair is removed from the root. Repeated sugaring treatments can tend to weaken the hair so it becomes easier over time.

Is sugaring painful?

Some report a slight sting comparable to ripping a sticky tape from the skin. The skin may be red for a while after sugaring but this usually disappears within 24 hours.

Is sugaring safe?

Yes, the ingredients are all natural. Sugaring even has healing properties. Paste solutions which are purchased can also contain other ingredients such as citric acid and gum Arabic.

The citric acid is an astringent which can tighten the skin making hair removal easier and the gum Arabic gives a proper consistency to the paste making it easier to remove.

What are the differences between sugaring and waxing?

Wax adheres to the hair and the skin.

Sugaring paste adheres only to the hair so there is less discomfort.

Wax is applied either hot or cold (in precoated strips) to the skin.

Sugaring paste is used at room temperature or slightly warmed.

Wax often contains chemicals which can be a little hard on the skin if used repeatedly.

Sugaring paste is completely natural and gentle on the skin.

Wax can be messy to clean up due to the petroleum base.

Sugaring paste is easily cleaned up with water.

A scam is a dishonest attempt to get you to part with your money by making exaggerated claims or by failing to deliver the goods promised.

As there is such a huge demand for convenient hair removal methods, the entry on the market some years ago of solutions known as hair inhibitors, which claim to slow down or even permanently stop hair growth, were welcomed by many.

However, due to dubious claims and many disappointed customers in some cases, the shouts of “SCAM!” can be heard on some web site forums.

Are these accusations justified? Just what is the truth about hair inhibitors?

I have been marketing hair inhibitors now for some years and can provide some honest answers.

First, it is important to do a little checking on the company promoting the product and see if there are any negative comments on the internet. Usually just entering the name of the product or the company along with the word “scam” or “complaints” in Google will give you an indication.

There are claims in some places that hair inhibitors can result in permanent hair removal. Personally, I would not say this is common. Perhaps in some instances this may be the case, but electrolysis and laser hair removal seem to be the only permanent hair removal methods currently available. Even then, results can vary from person to person and there can be regrowth in some cases.

It does seem however that hair inhibitors can slow down the rate of hair growth if used after each hair removal session. They work best with hair removal methods that take hair out by the root, such as waxing, sugaring, tweezing or threading. The enzymes in the product can get into the hair follicle and affect the rate and texture of regrowth so hair removal sessions are not so frequent and they become easier as the hair that regrows is often finer.

It is important to say that results vary from individual to individual. So in some cases, they may not make any difference at all. In other cases the results may be poor, good, or excellent, depending on how the individual responds to the treatment.

So before ordering a hair inhibitor, make sure the product carries an unconditional, no questions asked, full money refund guarantee. In my experience, the refund rate is around 1%, so obviously the majority of users are satisfied to the extent they do not feel it is worth requesting a refund.

I have been associated with Nisim International, the makers of Kalo, which has been on the market since the early 1990’s. They are a very honest company and offer good customer service. They run a forum for Kalo users and some of the answers from the Administrator to the pointed questions are very helpful. I have set out a selection below.

To sum up: Are hair inhibitors a scam? It depends on the company. Before parting with your money, do research and make sure the company is reputable and there is a full guarantee. If after 3 or 4 months you do not get the results you wish for, claim a refund. That’s what the guarantee is there for!

If you wish to do more research on Kalo see the resource box below.

Here are the comments from the Kalo user forum:

Consumer: “Hey its been 4 months since I purchased Kalo hair inhibitor. I have used it 5 times already. I’m really getting worried Kalo won’t work for me. I do exactly as it says on the instruction. How come I’m not seeing any results?”

Admin: “You may not like this answer, but you may be one of the people it does not work for. It sounds as though you are doing it correctly. I hope we can help you but if not we will be happy to provide you with a refund.”

Consumer No. 1: “If Kalo hair inhibitor actually works, why isn’t it a very well known and sought after product? It certainly isn’t up there with Rogaine or Propecia.”

Admin: “Advertising is really the answer. Big drug companies like Upjohn (Rogaine) and Merck (Propecia) spend about 75-100 million dollars each per year advertising just those two products. We don’t have anywhere near that kind of budget. We have chosen to grow slowly and steadily by word of mouth and small regional advertising campaigns.”

Consumer No. 2: “I’m not convinced. Rogaine is FDA-approved and proven by clinical controlled double blind studies. Why hasn’t Nisim conducted a controlled double blind study to satisfy the scientific community and thus inspire confidence in the public eye?”

Admin: “The cost of an FDA approved double blind clinical study is about a million dollars. We have conducted a study (not a double blind study) and it does work. We guarantee results with a no time limit full money back guarantee.”

Consumer: “I purchased two Kalo hair inhibitor lotions to decrease the growth of my facial hair. I have used it twice or three times now and didn’t see a difference.”

Admin: “After shaving and using Kalo hair inhibitor you will need to use it for about 3 weeks to start to see a difference. If you use Kalo after waxing, tweezing or sugaring, you will see a difference in about 2-3 sessions.”

Consumer No. 1: “Are there any reports of Kalo not working?”

Consumer No. 2: “Yes, you can find messages on this board to that effect. However, the vast majority of messages I’ve read have been positive.”

Consumer: “After only one month and several times with tweezing, hair on the back of my hands and around the nipple area are almost gone. I’m seeing good results as of now.”

Admin: “Thanks for the report. Please keep us posted.”

Consumer: “A fast note about my results with Kalo after about 120 days. Good news – still reducing all my pubic hair. There is now large clean patches of no hair or black spots showing on my skin. All the hair is like fine baby hair now that is still growing back slowly. Very happy with Kalo so far.”

Admin: “Great! Glad to hear about the good results.”

Consumer: “Using Kalo hair inhibitor its now only been like 3 months. The pubic hairs that are left are very fine and weak. Boy as long as you get the hair out by the roots without breaking, this stuff Kalo just works great for me. Good luck to all – it just takes time.”

Admin: “Those are great results. Thank you for posting.”

Consumer No. 1: “I want to know if Kalo hair inhibitor really works.”

Consumer No. 2: “I bought Kalo sometime in January and it’s April now. I can tell you I’ve seen awesome hair reduction on my stomach only after waxing twice. About 40% of my stomach hair is gone! Just to tell you I’m a dark tanned 18 year old male with brown hair.”

Despite the great demand for easy, cheap removal of unwanted hair, a chemical solution in the form of an over-the-counter cream has remained elusive for many years. Creams possess many advantages over other methods. Unlike plucking, they are generally painless unless an allergic rash is developed, while they are far cheaper and more convenient than electrolysis or laser hair removal. They can be applied almost anywhere, although some areas may need a measure of privacy, and they work on all colors of hair and all skin tones equally.

However, the trade-off with creams is they are generally effective only temporarily. Chemical depilatories usually work by breaking down the keratin in hair, weakening the hair to the point where it can be scraped or rubbed off easily at skin level. In effect, they weaken hair to the point where it can be ‘wiped off’ rather than needing shaving. However, this effect typically does not last longer than a thorough shave does – a few days at most. Care must also be used because keratin is also present in the skin, and leaving the cream on the skin can cause irritation as the chemical weakly attacks the body’s surface. Such creams are usually for the arms and legs, and not for the face or other sensitive areas, for this reason.

Fortunately, more advanced products are now available, whose active ingredients are bioactive plant extracts rather than the usual calcium hydroxide. These creams seep into the hair follicle after they are applied, and break down the hair inside the follicle as well as above the skin. The affected hair will fall out after a few days, sometimes a few weeks, of regular cream applications. It will eventually regrow, but much finer and softer than originally, as long as the cream continues to be regularly applied.

Continued application of the cream will make the hair on the area it is used on grow finer and finer with each regrowth, until hair growth stops almost completely. The bioactive cream must still be applied from time to time to ensure that the hair breaks down in the follicles and does not begin to regrow. But if this simple, easy precaution is taken, these new creams do indeed offer the potential to permanently remove unsightly hair from the arms or legs, at far less expense than electrolysis treatment, and less risk of allergic reactions than the more common calcium hydroxide treatments.

Pubic Hair Removal Methods. Threading: The Easy Cost Effective Way To Remove Your Hair

The hair removal technique known as threading is a very ancient hair removal method it is still being practised in countries in the Middle East and Asia. Although it originated from this part of the world the removal of body and facial hair is very much a part of our day to day life of people world over looking for painless quick and efficient and cost-effective ways of removing hair.

In fact threading has become so popular in Western countries it is not uncommon to find beauty and personal grooming salons offering the technique to their clients.

The technique itself is quite simple but does need some practice to do it well while not causing pain. While it is similar in nature to plucking and tweezing, it is often used in preference to these two techniques because of the ease in removing hair in clean straight lines. The technique involves a cotton thread where the ends are tied together creating a loop. The hands of then inserted into the loop and the thread is twisted numerous times. The thread is then moved gently over the hair covered area. As the thread is moved over the head the twist in the thread gently “tie-up” the hair is and pull them out by the root.

And while there can be some discomfort associated with any hair removal method threading is by far the most gentle and pain-free. The surface area of the skin is not effected in hair removal techniques such as shaving and waxing and there is very little discoloration and soreness of the skin after the technique is performed.

Once the hair is removed through threading the procedure usually does not need to be repeated before one to two months.

If you are looking this particular technique on hairier areas such as legs and pubic area while is effective and will work there may be quicker ways to remove hairs from larger areas. You might also want to consider areas that may not be all that easy to get to doing it yourself.

So if you are looking for a hair removal method that is virtually painless, lasts as long if not longer than other hair removal method, is easy to do it yourself (under arms and butts notwithstanding) anytime and any place and that costs literally nothing1000you may want to grab your cotton thread and give threading a go. You’ve got nothing to lose but your hair.

Laser hair removal is quite effective on the face, and, in the case of women, solves one major problem with unwanted facial hair.

Tweezing or waxing facial hair removes the hairs temporarily, but may stimulate them to grow in coarser when they do eventually recover from the treatment. Thus, such solutions may actually worsen the problem over time, despite providing short-term relief.

Laser hair removal, by contrast, is usually permanent, and clears away the offending hairs readily as long as they are dark-colored. Extremely fine, light facial hair such as that present on everyone’s face will probably not be removed by the laser, but this hair is invisible most of the time and is usually not considered a problem. Laser facial hair removal for women is better than electrolysis because it is far less likely to leave small scars on the delicate skin of the face. A tiny scar on the back of a thigh will be unnoticeable, but one on an otherwise well-groomed face can stand out as unpleasantly as a rogue hair does.

Women should note that although laser hair removal is generally permanent, additional treatments may be necessary as they age. This is because hair follicles in the face tend to become ‘activated’ as part of the aging process, so those with a tendency for unwanted facial hair growth will probably experience it in the future as well, simply not from the same follicles. The laser treatment will work as effectively on these new arrivals as on the original problem hairs, however.

Laser treatment should never be used on the eyelashes, eyelids, or the area of the face directly under the eyebrow, however. Laser light destroys eye tissue easily, and a poor targeted flash could end up burning a permanent hole in the retina, leaving a small blind spot in the field of vision. For this reason, home laser users should not attempt to use their epilation laser on the hair between the eyebrows – a task best left to a professionally qualified esthetician.

Permanent Back Hair Removal: Do You Have Your Options?

If you are someone who is bothered by excess body hair either on you or your loved one’s body, you should know that there are options available for you. However you should know that popular body hair removal methods will vary from place to place, and that includes the ever-popular permanent back hair removal methods as well.

What Options are Available to me?
In regards to permanent back hair removal methods, there are in fact several options that are available to you; for instance, waxing is a possibility, but can become incredibly costly and is also so painful that not many men are willing to have it done. As well, there is the option of laser permanent back hair removal; the laser option is one of the most popular, as it is quite inexpensive, is a permanent method of hair removal, and is basically completely painless.

The option of laser permanent back hair removal is open for anyone who wants to remove unwanted body hair, and although the procedure itself does not guarantee that of permanent hair removal necessarily, it does last for an incredibly long period of time, and it is most successful on people with darker hair and light skin.

How the laser permanent back hair removal procedure actually works is that during the actual procedure, your doctor will pressure a hand-held laser to your skin, and depending on the type of laser that is used, a cooling device on the tip or a cool gel may be used in order to protect the skin for the duration of the procedure. Also, once the doctor activates the laser, what happens is that the light passes through your skin’s surface and the intense heat of this laser damages the hair follicles, which thus inhibits hair growth.

Usually during a procedure such as this you will be made to wear goggles and this is to attempt and prevent that of accidental exposure of your eyes to the laser light. As well, once the laser is activated, you will typically feel that of a stinging sensation, and this is why often times a local anesthetic will be applied before the procedure, in order to reduce discomfort overall.

Regardless of which method you actually end up going with, the most important thing is that you inform yourself on t
1000
he matter overall, so that you understand the processes in all entirety and so that you can result in making the best possible decision for you.

In Greek mythology, the Titan Prometheus gave the gift of fire to Humanity. It provided warmth, light, and energy. Whether or not you believe that myth, humanity has learned to concentrate that light into beams of unimaginable power:

Lasers.

What does that word make you think of first? Science fiction ray guns? A secret agent strapped to a table while a metal-melting beam of light inches toward him? Or maybe the master thief throwing dust in the air to reveal a deadly maze of red laser beams guarding the treasure?

Those are all popular but outdated images of the laser. Today, lasers vanquish different foes such as unwanted hair, vision correction, and even tumors.

How is a beam of light able to delicately reshape the surface of the eye, yet still be able to cut steel?

LASER is an acronym for “Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.” In this definition radiation doesn’t refer to nuclear radiation, but to electromagnetic radiation. The electromagnetic spectrum includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared light, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, and X-rays. Some light wavelengths are visible, and other are not unless special equipment is used (e.g., infrared cameras, night-vision goggles).

Lasers operate by concentrating the strength of various forms of light. The strengthened beam is an almost perfectly straight beam, called a coherent beam. “Coherent” means that almost all of the light energy (photons) are traveling in the same direction. The laser light energy stays focused on a smaller area with greater power.

Compare this to an incoherent light source such as a light bulb, which emits photons in many directions and at many wavelengths. This is the job of a bulb, because we want visible energy spread out as much as possible.

A flashlight also uses a light bulb, but also contains a curved mirror to approximate a more coherent beam. The light from the strongest commercial spotlight (essentially a giant flashlight) will disperse in the atmosphere after a relatively short distance. A laser beam can be bounced off the moon! http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEhelp/ApolloLaser.html

A closer analogy to a laser is a magnifying glass. Remember as a child how you got the sun’s rays to focus on a tiny spot that got hot enough to burn? That’s similar to what a laser does, unless you moved the magnifying glass. Then the focus was lost and the sunlight was no longer concentrated. Because the laser employs a coherent beam, that essentially means it stays focused no matter the distance! Think of it link an infinite magnifying glass.

Lasers can perform a multitude of different tasks at different power levels. Specific light wavelengths and beam strengths can be achieved by altering the light source, power source, and even the color of the light. This extreme versatility allows both the shaping of a delicate cornea and the cutting of industrial steel.

The laser in your CD player won’t cut steel, but neither can the industrial laser reshape your eye without destroying it. Matching the right laser power to the right job enables us to safely harness this useful new fire.
